Although there were some fantastic looking cars in the list overall, it's the top five that grab most people's attention and the following information explores the five highest ranking cars in all their glory.


1. Jaguar E-type - the first of two Jaguars to make the Telegraph's top five, the E-type is regarded by many as the epitome of British automobile design, making it understandable why so many people voted for it to be classed as the most beautiful car in the world.


Designed by Malcolm Sayer, the designer responsible for some of Jaguar's other notable models, including the XKE and XJ13, the E-type boasts everything you could ever want in a car - stunning looks, fantastic performance and an overall aura that turns heads wherever it's driven.


2. Citroen DS - if you haven't seen a DS before, the first time you look at it, you'll probably smile and let out a little laugh.


It's only when you get past the fact it looks like a gangster or getaway car from a 1920s movie that you being to realise just how beautiful it is.


French built but Italian designed, almost 1.5 million DSs were sold, thanks largely to the fact that it stood out from the crowd at its time of production between 1955 and 1975 and made history with some automobile technological advances.


3. Jaguar XK120 - the first sports car to come off the Jaguar production line after World War II, the XK120 was manufactured from 1948 to 1954 and throughout those six years over 12,000 models were produced.


Costing 1,263 pounds when first produced, it had a 3.4 litre engine, could reach 60 miles per hour in 10 seconds exactly and won a host of different titles during its racing history, including being the car to win the first NASCAR road race at Linden Airport, New Jersey, on 13 June 1954.


4. Ferrari Dino 206 / 246 GT - initially, the Dino name was used as a sub-brand for which Ferrari could produce cars that didn't feature the traditional V12 or flat 12 engines and which could therefore be offered of a lower cost.


However, once this model had been upgraded in terms of its engine, it was decided that it would become encompassed within the Ferrari brand itself, something which was a fantastic move for the company, as the Dino went on to be Ferrari's first top selling car.


5. Lamborghini Miura - when the Miura first hit the showrooms of Lamborghini dealers around the world in 1966, it blew away most car enthusiasts due to its sheer beauty.


Take a look at a Miura today and it's highly likely that you at least have to look twice, not only for the fact it's such a beautiful piece of automobile manufacturing, but also as it's widely regarded as the vehicle which set the trend for high performance, good looking sports cars.
